5/6CH you are ROCKING the teamwork, focus, engagement and NORM storming this term!
CONGRATULATIONS on filling the Marble Jar in a record TWO TERMS! I am super impressed and excited about what you will achieve as a team in the next Semester!
In the meantime get on to planning your reward day.... hmmmm extra sport, baking, science fun.... here you come!
Sooo winners have been announced... and though we were as a school very well represented in the top 10% of entries no one made it through to the winning places.
I am still super proud of your writing efforts and the great stories you put together to enter this competition.
Here is the link to the winning writing:
Take a close look at the winning writing and the runners up. Think about what these pieces of writing contain or 'do' that your pieces maybe did not, and think about the ways you could start working this into your own writing... there is always next year for the competition!
Hi there week 7!
You did not take long to arrive!!
It will be a great week catching up with each other as we share our Grade 6 Camp and Grade 5 Leadership days with each other.
We have a pretty regular week and can look forward to an inter-school sport challenge on Friday. Don't forget library books on Tuesday and sports uniforms on Thursday and Friday.
Today we will check out a new online writing tool: Kidsblog. I have sent you all an email which will get you to the right place and has your logon information on it. I can't wait to read what you put together!
Also check out the new links I have popped into our sidebar on this page - Brainbashers and Jokes... always great to stretch the brain in different ways?!
Let's have a great week everyone!
Enjoy the camp pics.
Here is a link for our card instructions
Inside your card you will write your simile and metaphor poem for your mum....
My mum is like the sun's rays, always warm and sunny
My mum's eyes are as blue as Fijian waters.
My mum's heart is as big as Western Australia and as gentle as a butterfly's touch.
My mum is a referee, always making things fair.
My mum is a taxi driver getting me to my sports practises and games.
My mum is a clown who always makes me laugh and smile
Think about commenting on things about your mum that are not just physical - her qualities, things she does for you.
Good morning 5/6CH and welcome to Mr Grace!
Please check out the 'Work on Writing' page on this website - you will find it if you go to the 'English' tab along the website menu.
There are a couple of clips to check out - if they don't work on your iPads Mr Grace will play them on the SMART board and maybe you could discuss them as a group.
We are focusing in on the art of writing - using interesting words, a variety of sentence types and using narrative (story) structure to create stories that people will WANT TO READ!!
Look carefully at the Story Grammar bookmark that Mr Grace will share with you. Read some of the short stories written by other children and see if you can identify the different parts of the story that are on the Story Grammar bookmark.
Remember to meet our class norms! See you soon.
Happy Wednesday everyone!
Think about our class norms and what it means to SHINE in 5/6CH - particularly that EXCELLENCE focus!
See if you can 'bank' a 'G', an 'A', an 'M' and an 'E' before 2:45pm.
If you can Mrs S may take you out for an end of day game?!!

Looking forward to catching up properly tomorrow! It's too long between us being in the same learning space!!
Welcome to the new school year, a new learning space for many of you.... and a new teacher for some of you!
Exciting times lie ahead for us as we journey through this new year of learning!
Buckle up, get your 'can do' attitude on and be ready to stretch your brain while you construct new learning.
Our first job will be some class photography and the creation of a class blurb for this site.... any volunteers?
I am super excited to be working with you.
Let's make this year one of your best.
Welcome to Mr Grace
9:30 - 10:00am
We are learning to use simile in our writing to emotionally connect with our audience.
Our Pet Peeve Poem will
Read the following example together...
How do the similes help you form an emotional response? How do they make you feel?
Refocusing on our Pet Peeve Poetry from Tuesday...
Let's think about those peeves we shared....
In creating our Pet Peeve Poetry let's begin by creating a poem together...
I'm hoping you are all OK with trying this with one of my classroom pet peeves?!
People who do not pick up after themselves...
Think, pair, share
What is annoying like this?
Now you've shared with a buddy and another pair you will have a couple of strong examples...
Did anyone have...
PEOPLE WHO DO NOT PICK UP AFTER THEMSELVES
You are annoying like a rooster that crows loudly outside my bedroom every morning at dawn.
Like a jagged fingernail that catches on my school jumper all the time.
Your selfishness feels like the sting from lemon juice in a paper cut.
Can we include some of our own examples of similes?
Now we are beginning to get the idea, take a look back at the Pet Peeve Poems we pasted into our Evidence Books.
Think about the sentence starters...
It's worse than....
It's as annoying as....
It's as terrible as...
As horrible as...
It looks like...
It sounds like....
It feels like.....
As awful as....
As painful as....
Go back to your initial Pet Peeve brainstorming.... if you were comparing your peeve to something awful what would that be? To something hideous - what would that be?
Have a go at drafting some ideas into your English book... remember you are really working on connecting with your audience - what will get a reaction from them? What will make them go "Oh... yes!! That IS horrible, I know what that is like"
Think about the following quote.... REMEMBER WORDS HAVE POWER.....CHOOSE AMAZING, INTERESTING, THOUGHTFUL, UNUSUAL WORDS...your writing will SIIIIIIIIIING!
Here is a link to the NAPLAN site and some examples of past tests. As Grade 5s you have all participated in NAPLAN before so these will refresh your memories. Think about what the questions are asking you to do, how to keep track of the time during the test (and use all the time wisely) and how the tests are organised.
There goes the term!
This final week promises to be SUPER busy with our Twilight Sports Day, Stations of the Cross re enactments and our Annual School Walkathon, phew!
Take a moment to reflect...
As we learn more about each other and how we can be the best community of learners possible... let's think happiness...
Have a go at responding to the question below by using ANSWER GARDEN a great Web 2.0 tool we may be able to utilise in Inquiry... Start Ups... English... Maths.... I'm interested in what you think!
These are the things we need to have completed and ready for Learning Journals this week.
